What is R.E.A.C.H.?
R.E.A.C.H. stands for Roadmap to Elevate and Advance Correctional Health. The objective of the study is to better understand MDOC employee wellness and generate strategies to enhance all aspects of employee health.

The MDOC is partnering with a team of correctional specialists to conduct this study. The team is led by Rosemary Ricciardelli, a university professor and research chair in Safety, Security, and Wellness at Memorial University of Newfoundland (and a trained correctional officer). Rose is collaborating with Meghan Mitchell (University of North Dakota) and Marcella Cassiano (University of Winnipeg), all professors of criminal justice.

What does participation look like?
Participants will complete an online inventory and may have the opportunity to talk on the telephone with a researcher. This is a three-year study, and you will have the opportunity to participate every year if you choose.

The inventory contains questions about your job, stressors, wellness, physical health, and mental health.

Am I allowed to participate in the study during paid hours?
Yes. You may use the computers available at your worksite to fill out the inventory. You may also talk to the research team during paid hours. To protect your confidentiality, you may speak with the research team from your vehicle in the parking lot or on your own time from wherever you would like.

Yes. The research team will record the call to help with analysis. They will transcribe your call and remove any identifying information from the conversation so nobody outside of the university research team will know who you are.
